TASAC to regulate clearing and forwarding operations

The newly-created Tanzania Shipping Agencies Corporation (TASAC) has been granted exclusive rights to regulate and operate the clearing and forwarding industry in Tanzania. This means that TASAC will act as both a regulator and a shipping agency operation in the Mainland Tanzania. The body is expected to start its operations on Monday 4th March 2019. Tanzania Freight Forwarders Association (TAFFA), who represent clearing and forwarding agents in the republic of Tanzania called for further discussions regarding the decision as part of the effort to include all the stakeholders. “The law is silent on who is supposed to handle goods on transit to and from the landlocked countries” TAFFA Vice President Edward Urio told IPPMedia on an exclusive interview yesterday.
