The Global Logistics Convention gains global footing as Rwanda successfully hosts the 3rd edition

The third edition of the Global Logistics Convention of 2019 that was aimed at providing opportunities for the public, private sector, development partners and civil society organizations in promoting mutual understanding and create a shared course of action was held in August in Rwanda.

The Convention which attracted over 500 delegates both regionally and globally offered a unique opportunity for professionals in the transport and freight logistics sector from all over the world to share best practices, engage with transport and logistics policy makers, interact with a wide range of stakeholders as well as learn emerging trends, developments, opportunities and threats of the sector across the globe. We also had industry-focused, high-level panel discussions, very enriching plenary and break-away sessions by top-notch industry and public experts, business to business and business to government sessions rich in logistics trends.

This year’s theme; “Logistics; The Engine of Economic Growth and Development” came at a very crucial time that the region is undertaking major infrastructural and institutional reforms to transform the industry.

The convention is an annual freight logistics event of the Federation of East African Freight Forwarders Associations (FEAFFA) and is organized in collaboration with freight forwarders association of the host nation which in this case happened to be Rwanda Freight Forwarders Association (RWAFFA).

In this year’s convention, RWAFFA partnered with the government of Rwanda, leading development partners and corporate world that ensured its success.

Although the region has initiated major regional infrastructure projects that connect the East African countries such as the roads, railway, One-Stop Border Posts, and fibre optic network, the cost of transports is still high compared to the recommended global stands.
