The official media launch of the 7th Global Logistics Convention (GLC 2026) in Juba has set the stage for what is expected to be one of the region’s most significant gatherings of trade, transport, and logistics stakeholders. Bringing together government leaders, industry representatives, development partners, and the media, the launch highlighted the growing recognition of transport and logistics as critical enablers of Africa’s economic integration and sustainable growth.

Scheduled to take place from 25 to 27 August 2026, the convention will be held under the theme “Transport and Logistics as a Catalyst for Africa’s Integrated and Sustainable Economic Growth.” More than 500 participants from across Africa and beyond are expected to attend, including policymakers, business leaders, investors, freight forwarders, transport operators, development partners, and logistics professionals.

For the Federation of East African Freight Forwarders Associations (FEAFFA), the owner and convenor of the Global Logistics Convention, the event has evolved into far more than an annual industry gathering. It has become a strategic platform that connects businesses to opportunities, facilitates dialogue between the public and private sectors, and promotes practical solutions that strengthen trade and logistics across the region.

This year’s convention will be hosted by the South Sudan Freight Forwarders Association (SSFFA), one of FEAFFA’s member associations. Hosting the Convention in Juba for the first time reflects the growing role of South Sudan within the East African trade and logistics landscape and reinforces the federation’s commitment to ensuring that all member countries actively participate in regional integration efforts.

The media launch provided an opportunity to reflect on the growing importance of logistics in supporting economic transformation across Africa. As countries seek to increase intra-African trade and maximize the opportunities presented by regional and continental trade agreements, efficient transport and logistics systems have become more important than ever. Reliable supply chains, improved border processes, modern infrastructure, and stronger regional connectivity remain essential for moving goods competitively across markets.

Speaking during the launch, FEAFFA Executive Director Mr. Elias Baluku noted that the Convention continues to create tangible value for businesses and governments alike by providing a platform where ideas can be translated into action.

“The Global Logistics Convention has become one of the most important platforms for connecting businesses, policymakers, investors, and logistics stakeholders across the region. Every year, we see new partnerships formed, new business opportunities identified, and meaningful discussions that help improve the movement of goods and services across borders. That is why the Convention continues to grow in importance, not only for the logistics industry but for the wider economy,” he said.

Mr. Baluku added that transport and logistics touch every sector of the economy and that improving the efficiency of supply chains directly contributes to trade growth, investment attraction, and economic competitiveness. He noted that the Convention creates a unique environment where stakeholders can exchange experiences, explore innovations, and collaborate on solutions to challenges affecting regional trade.

The launch was attended by senior government officials, including Dr. Labanya Margaret from the Ministry of Trade and Industry and Hon. Agok Makur, Minister of Energy and Dams, demonstrating strong support for the Convention and its objectives.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Labanya Margaret emphasized the role of logistics in driving economic growth, facilitating trade, and creating employment opportunities, particularly for young people. She noted that hosting the Convention presents South Sudan with an opportunity to showcase its potential as a destination for business and investment while strengthening its engagement with regional and international markets.

Hon. Agok Makur highlighted the importance of energy infrastructure in supporting industrial development and efficient logistics systems. He encouraged investors attending the Convention to explore opportunities within South Sudan’s energy sector, particularly in areas such as hydropower, solar energy, and infrastructure development.

The President of the South Sudan Freight Forwarders Association, Mr. Daniel Deng, described the Convention as a significant opportunity for the country and its business community. He noted that bringing together more than 500 delegates under one roof will create a valuable platform for discussing business opportunities, identifying solutions to trade challenges, and strengthening regional cooperation.

Beyond the conference sessions, GLC 2026 will feature exhibitions showcasing innovations in logistics and supply chain management, business-to-business networking engagements, and regional logistics excellence awards that recognize outstanding achievements within the sector. This year’s Convention will be particularly unique as it will also introduce the first-ever FEAFFA Logistics Excellence Awards, which will celebrate both individual and corporate excellence across the logistics and transport industry. Applications for the awards are currently open, and industry players can submit their entries through https://feaffa.com/logistics-awards/ A dedicated award category for South Sudan’s logistics industry will provide local companies and professionals with an opportunity to gain regional recognition and showcase their contributions to trade facilitation.

The Convention will also offer participants an opportunity to experience South Sudan’s culture, tourism potential, and investment landscape. Through exhibitions, networking events, and stakeholder engagements, visitors will gain a broader appreciation of the country’s opportunities and its growing role in regional commerce.

As preparations gather momentum, FEAFFA continues to work closely with SSFFA, government agencies, development partners, and industry stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of the Convention. The federation views GLC 2026 as an opportunity not only to advance discussions on logistics and trade but also to strengthen partnerships that contribute to sustainable economic growth across East Africa and the African continent.

With participation expected from across Africa, Europe, Asia, and other regions, the 7th Global Logistics Convention is set to reinforce its position as a leading platform for dialogue, collaboration, and investment in transport and logistics. More importantly, it will provide another opportunity to demonstrate how stronger logistics systems can unlock trade, connect markets, and support Africa’s long-term economic transformation.
